East of India are successful hand-crafted gift designers and producers founded in 1991. In 2016 they embarked on a new journey; this time it was a digital journey which would see them launch a new website. It was to be their first venture into selling direct to the trade online so careful planning, attention to detail and reliable support would be required, especially when over 3,500 products were involved!
The design would need to be functional and enable logical navigation, clear and multiple views of each product along with usual provisions such as related products and a good search facility.
EOI would need to manage the site internally, the administration access needed to allow multiple levels of access and pdf guidelines be available as quick reference to carry out less frequent updates.
We produced a site map, a visual representation of each screen and its basic content, this gave us the opportunity to understand and adjust exactly what a user would encounter. We needed to produce an experience to balance what a new potential customer would experience verses how fast a regular buyer could log-in select products and complete an order.
Design of each screen and the specifics of its content was implemented, regularly proofed with the client and amended where necessary. Online forms were developed, search tools and customer account parameters were set. We tested, re-tested then tested again, on different platforms, in different browsers and responsive states checked for compliance with mobile devices.
In January 2018 the site was launched, guidelines supplied and we continue to carry out periodic updates and are on hand to action necessary maintenance and improvements.
