Case Study 1

ECO – Exhibition Stand design and installation

Client brief

Stena Line operates Europe’s most comprehensive ferry route network. FbyD are an appointed contractor to the freight arm of the Stena Line company and have been responsible for the design and installation of their European exhibition stand requirements since 2014.

In 2018 Stena Line launched their green strategy with the aim of becoming a leader in sustainable shipping. In response to the new strategy FbyD undertook a review of the complete exhibition stand design and processes employed to deliver at each event.

Our solution

The new design would employ lightweight and re-usable modular floor and wall systems sourced from responsible, sustainable suppliers.

The stand offers visitors an open environment, with a large welcoming reception desk to offer the opportunity for short meetings.

Smaller three seat meeting tables were installed for longer meetings. Each table houses built in wireless phone charging facility for visitors convenience.

A four seat chill-out soft seating area along with coffee table foosball gaming injects some novelty and offers visitors chance to unwind in a relaxing space.

Feature walls built with horizontal slats and stainless steel uprights hold three dimensional icons to illustrate campaigns and attract the attention of visitors to the show.

Stena Line has developed IT tools to assist customers in management of their freight movement and were keen to promote these. In response, we built a high level ‘interactive table’ with stools, offering four tablets in holders which could be flipped to enable users access on either side of the table.

Sustainable benefits

Re-usable modular frameworks – means there is no requirement for single use timber or sheet materials, the associated filler, sanding and paint processes. This makes for a reduction in waste material and cleaner working environment.

Re-usable high quality hard flooring solutions – avoids the disposal use of single use carpet or laminate flooring.

Modern lighter weight display components – means easier handling and we can utilise lighter vehicles to transport the stand reducing fuel emissions when compared to HGV transport. Using lighter vehicles also gives our team the ability to transport the stand themselves reducing the need for separate staff transport costs, ferry crossings and flights, which in turn this reduces our carbon footprint.

Tension fabric material – when properly installed gives the ability to apply clean seamless graphics to large flat surfaces. The ease of installation, transport and storage makes reusing fabric graphics an efficient and environmentally friendly option compared to rigid materials.
